Novel Technology Due Diligence: Exergy’s Complementary Skillset for Partnerships

As the global investment community examines new and emerging technologies and ideas, effective due-diligence teams are foundational to ensuring risks are adequately quantified. The crossover of different industries often creates situations where expert teams are highly effective when joining forces to ensure no stone is left unturned. Sproule reached out to Exergy after the successful conclusion of our previous due-diligence partnership utilizing our surface facilities knowledge to complement their team and provide a comprehensive due-diligence package for their client.

As part of their project portfolio, the company being accessed proposed a suite of surface processing facilities to accompany and better monetize their subsurface resources. These surface facilities included, methane to hydrogen conversion technologies, helium purification technologies, and carbon capture plants, all novel in one way or another which aligned well with our assessment skillset.

Our team assessed both the commercial and technical aspects of the different plays, examining gas compositions, projected capital cost estimates, and market demand to develop a graded matrix of the plays so that more prospective ones could be highlighted and prioritized. The international aspect of the review also required the team to assess the impact of local resource extraction and emission policy on the proposed assets and determine alignment with market trends.

Working alongside the Sproule team, our team reviewed engineering deliverables, market assessments, and feasibility studies to identify flags or uncertainties and ultimately allow the investment group to make an educated investment decision.
